War & Peace at Core New Art Space

After the tragic events of September 11th, Core member artists Kathee Kiehn and Suzy Johnson and myself decided to forego our yearly Core show and open the doors to others as an artistic outlet for their collective pain, anger, hope and vision around the themes of War & Peace. This unjuried art show and event was open to all artists and all artistic mediums.

The show opened on Friday, November 16, 2001 at Core New Art Space in lower downtown Denver with 79 artists represented by over 120 pieces of art in all media. The event was well attended and the tribal trance band Project Saffire donated their talents to entertain the crowd.

$700 was raised for the September 11th Fund. First Place award went to Marko Marino for his untitled oil painting portraying two fighting tigers, and Best of Show went to Janelle Pietrzak and friends for their untitled mixed media altar. The Soul2Soul Award went to Tanya Vallianos for her healing oil painting titled "The Source".

At the time of the show, many artists expressed their desire to continue this show online with a virtual gallery and message board for ongoing communication. This website is the result of those wonderful artist's efforts. I apologize for the poor quality of some of the images and the loss of some information... I would appreciate any artist's involved to fill in the details for me where needed or inform me of any corrections. I also regret that not all artists and artworks are represented, only a small fraction could be included here. If you are one of the artists in the show and would like a link to your website or would like your email address posted along with your artwork, please contact me.

I'm thrilled to finally share these poignant works of art with the world on this first anniversary of the tragic event, and I sincerely thank all the artists involved for participating in this celebration of healing and memorial to peace.

Blessings of peace, love & light,
