~Updated 1/10/04~

Down to Earth (2001)
Starring: Chris Rock, Regina King, Chazz Palminteri

This remake of the 1970's "Heaven Can Wait," which was a remake of 1941's "Here Comes Mr. Jordan." Heaven has made a mistake taking this struggling standup comic (hilariously, yet sensitively portrayed by Chris Rock), before his time. Just as he has had a glimpse of "The One," he's hit by a Mack truck. To make amends, the manager of Heaven (Chazz Palminteri) temporarily offers him the body of a rich, ruthless, white multimillionaire until a more suitable body can be found. This is a story of love transcending culture, color, society and physical manifestation ... the love of souls that is ageless, timeless, colorless and without societal limitations. It's also hilarious, heartwarming, and will leave you smiling long after the credits roll. Consider this the first "hip-hop" twinflame movie I've seen ... and I loved it!

Bruce Almighty (2003)
Starring: Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman

Bruce's miraculous evolution from self-centered jerk to a man transformed by his awakening to unconditional love and sacrifice will touch your heart and make you laugh out loud! Many who have experienced this challenging twin soul bond can relate to his girlfriend Grace's tearful prayer to God to be released from this love. So many messages are hidden away in this lovely spiritual movie disguised as a slapstick comedy, letting go of ego, surrendering to God's will, the awakening to unconditional love and surrender, even the "Dark Night of the Soul" is poignantly portrayed. The big message of the film? ... "Be the Miracle." Who says spirituality can't be hilarious? As a side note, this is perhaps the first DVD I've seen where the deleted scenes are just as funny as the rest of the movie, certainly worth watching.

The Road Home (2000)
Starring: Ziyi Zhang, Honglei Sun

This exquisite film by Yimou Zhang, director of "Ju Dou" and "To Live," will take your breath away in every "postcard perfect" frame of cinematographic beauty.

A simple story set in rural China of a girl's legendary love for a new young schoolteacher... a love that eventually lasts a lifetime. Zhang Ziyi, from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," gives a stunning performance as the smitten girl Di, her hope and longing captured with heartbreaking beauty. I don't believe anyone can watch this gem with a dry eye.

Bulletproof Monk (2003)
Starring: Yun-Fat Chow, Seann William Scott, Jaime King

Another action packed "martial arts" film with an underlying "twinflames-save-the-world" message. The film is graced with the presence of Yun-Fat Chow from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" as the Tibetan monk charged with finding a successor to guard the sacred scrolls which empower the holder with immortality.

The Matrix (1999)
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne

The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne

This action-packed, mind-expanding series of movies has become a true "twinflame trilogy". From hero Neo's awakening, and heroine Trinity's double entendre message from the Oracle about "The One" in the first installment, to the "Power of Love" saving the world in the second movie, this has become a mythological story that resonates. I have yet to see the third and final installment of The Matrix series, but I hear the spiritual and twinflame message is just as obvious.

Nickolas Nickleby (2002)
Starring: Charlie Hunnam, Christopher Plummer, Anne Hathaway

A heart-stirring and soul inspiring rendition of the Charles Dickens classic. Portraying the human spirit rising above devastating challenges and suffering, opening one's heart to love, forgiveness and grace, and the ultimate union of two most deserving souls, united as equals.

Possession (2003)
Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Aaron Eckhart, Jeremy Northam, Jennifer Ehle

This film weaves a modern day budding relationship of two dysfunctional and wounded scholars, and the lives and secrets of the two Victorian poets they have come together to decipher. The passion, anguish and sacrifice of twinflames is beautifully portrayed in the Victorian romance sequences of Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte.

The Haunted Lantern (1997)
Starring: Natsuo, Ujiki

A classic Japanese ghost story about soul mates locked in a tragic karmic dance, returning to lifetimes of desire, betrayal and vengeance. This is the story of Samurai Shintaburo and Tsuyu, the woman who reaches beyond the grave in her desire for him. Frankly, it gets rather silly with the ancient Japanese portrayal of ghosts as demonic beings and the battle between the Buddhist priest and the ghosts, but the message of breaking the karmic cycle with love, forgiveness and release is there. This movie is not for the squeamish.

Breaking the Waves (1996)
starring Emily Watson and Stellan Skarsgård

A disturbing yet unforgettable story of love, faith, religious dogma verses spiritual conviction, unconditional love and ultimate sacrifice. Artfully filmed in the barren beauty of a remote Scottish isle, featuring the award-winning performance of Emily Watson. This shocking film explores the fine lines between unconditional love, sexuality, madness and spiritual connection. Haunting, disturbing, thought-provoking and ultimately miraculous. "Love is a mighty power," and "a pure heart can change the world" are the keys to the heart of this story.

Innocence (2000)
starring Julia Blake, Charles 'Bud' Tingwell

This stunning film from Australia is a testament to the enduring power of love and the strength and passion of the human spirit. Andreas and Claire were youthful lovers separated by parental disapproval, they went on to marry others and raise families, never forgetting their passionate love. Andreas is now a widower while Claire is languishing in an enduring, yet loveless marriage to a man who never truly knew her. Now nearing their 70's, they meet again to find their passion had never died, and their love endures and grows ever stronger, to the dismay and amusement of their families. This is an incredible movie about the timeless and ageless love between souls, the trials, separations, transcendence and ultimate reunion of two hearts that beat as one. A definite lesson in the patience and strength of twin soul love.

The End of the Affair (1999)
starring Ralph Fiennes, Julianne Moore

"Love doesn't end just because we don't see each other..."

I had not seen the 1955 version of this story starring Deborah Kerr and Van Johnson but was recently directed by a visitor to the Twin Soul Message Board to rent this 1999 version starring Ralph Fiennes, Julianne Moore and Stephen Rea. This Academy Award nominated film directed by Neil Jordan, artfully portrays the intricate workings of the soul mate/karmic relationship between Sarah, her husband Henry, and her twin flame Maurice Bendrix in war-torn WWII England. A timeless story of passion, promises, betrayals, forgiveness and desire all interwoven with a strong spiritual thread. Breathtaking.

The End of the Affair (1955)
starring Van Johnson, Deborah Kerr

After finally viewing this classic version of Graham Greene's novel, I felt it was just as timelessly captivating as the remake. The anguish of love and sacrifice, and the search for the Divine Presence that drives the twin flame bond, this movie will make you weep.

Amelie (2001)
starring Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz

This quirky, enchanting film from France follows the life and adventures of charming oddball Amelie as she commits random acts of kindness, enjoys simple pleasures and dispenses her own hilarious brand of justice to overbearing bullies.

The movie gives you a sense of our human connectedness, our little joys, pains, sorrows and secrets that are shared by the odd ensemble of lovable characters whose lifes' Amelie is intent upon improving. Amelie's brief encounter with an equally quirky stranger motivates her to fix her own life, overcome her fears, and open her wounded heart to love. A beautiful, funny and immensely entertaining movie about the healing power of love. You will LOVE this film.

Castaway (2000)

starring Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt

I was pretty surprised by this unlikely twin soul movie... but the aspects are definitely there, including the painful loss of a "near flame" or soul mate prior to the meeting with one's true divine partner, and the synchronistic symbols and messages heralding this union. I won't give away the plot to the dozen or so people who haven't seen it yet.... but no... Wilson was not his true spiritual partner.

Shrek (2001)

starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy

An animated twin soul adventure? You bet! This movie tells a tale of seeing past the flesh and into the soul, looking beyond appearances to find your true love.... and it's a hilarious, charming, laugh-riot of a movie.

coverSomewhere in Time (1980)
20th Anniversary Edition

starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour

I saw this film 20 years after its 1980 release, somehow managing to avoid it until my Beloved insisted I see it so I would understand how he felt. I was blown-away by the beauty of this story of a modern day man who becomes compelled and obsessed by a woman in an old painting... remembering her, wanting her, loving her. He manages by love, and sheer force of will and mind to transport himself back to her... Somewhere in Time. I can understand why this movie is a favorite for romantics, lovers and Twin Souls.

coverDangerous Beauty (1998)
starring Catherine McCormack, Rufus Sewell

A beautifully filmed period piece based on real life 16th-century Venetian courtesan Veronica Franco. Veronica, unable to marry the man she loves because of her station.... becomes a courtesan at the suggestion of her mother, this allows her into the otherwise "forbidden-to-women" realm of politics, hierarchy and privilege and allows her contact with her love Marco. You can sense the undying yet unfulfilled passion between these two Twin Souls as the years keep them tantalizingly close and heartbreakingly apart. A suspenseful though splendid ending. I'm searching now for the book this movie was based upon.

coverSerendipity (2001)
starring John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale

Serendipity: 1. the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for .

It was serendipity playing out when I found this little gem of a movie playing to a captive audience on a 10-hour a flight from Japan to San Fran. A true Twin Flame movie if there ever was one, addressing the magical first meeting and long, painful separation of these "soul mates" while each are balancing their karma with other mates and searching endlessly for the other. It beautifully portrays the synchronicities and magical messages from the Universe those who have experienced this magic can well understand. I would highly recommend this sleeper... had me in tears, happy ones.... and not the "I'm trapped in a cramped economy class seat with soggy food and a gassy seat mate" type tears.

coverCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
starring Chow Yun-Fat , Michelle Yeoh

I didn't know what lead me to see this movie days after its release, I hadn't been to a theater in years. But sitting in that dark, empty theater at the conclusion of this stunning masterpiece... tears streaming and the haunting song "A Love Before Time" playing on the screen, and I knew why Spirit had brought me here. This "martial art" film is a multi-layered spiritual message about love, faith, enlightenment, karma and sacrifice.... timeless love between souls.

"I would rather be a ghost drifting by your side...a condemned soul, than to enter heaven without you. Because of your love I will never be a lonely spirit".
~Master Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) to his unconsummated love, Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh)

Like Zen, this movie cannot fully be explained, it must be experienced.... and the experience is different for everyone, including the debate whether this movie has a happy ending or not... I believe it does.

"A faithful heart makes wishes come true."

There is a lovely website for my all-time favorite movie, here:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

coverWuthering Heights (1970)
starring Timothy Dalton, Anna Caulder-Marshall

Sure, there may be purists who complain that this version varies from Bronte's classic novel, but this is the movie that made me FEEL it. Young, pre-Bond Timothy Dalton is stunning as the brooding, tortured Heathcliff and Anna Caulder-Marshall as Catherine, his perfect passionate counterpart in this tale of two lovers who share one soul. Another star of this picture is the beautiful windswept English moors where it was filmed.

coverSplendor in the Grass (1961)
starring Natalie Wood & Warren Beatty

Elia Kazan's classic movie about two star-crossed and sexually repressed teenagers in the 1920's American Midwest. The passion and longing between Bud and Deenie is heartbreaking, transforming and ultimately unconditional, and one feels... eternal.

coverRomeo and Juliet: Franco Zeffirelli version (1968)
starring Leonard Whiting & Olivia Hussey

Whether Twin Flames or karmic star-crossed Soul Mates, the story of Romeo and Juliet is timeless, breathtaking and most beautifully filmed in this classic Franco Zeffirelli version.
