Connecting
With Your Guides: Tools to Use

Have
you ever wondered how to open up the door to the other side? How to
connect with your spirit guides, and discover what they have to tell
you? How to tap into the wonderful insight and guidance that can help
you to move forward and realize your dreams?
Well, it's probably not as difficult as you might think, although
it will likely take a bit of practice. It primarily involves meditation
and visualization. The two most important things, however, are shielding
and grounding. These are tools for your protection, and are valuable
not only for your connection to your guides, but for everyday living.
To begin, start shielding yourself so that you don't let in any unwanted
spirits. Visualize yourself surrounded by a white or golden light,
and make sure you visualize it behind and above you as well as in
front and to the sides. You can also picture a solid outer edge, if
you wish, to signify your shield.
Now, remember, the intent of your shielding is important. You want
to be able to release energy, so energy should be allowed to flow
through the shield from you. Also, you can allow positive energy to
flow in as well, but your shield is intended to block all negative
energy. If it helps, you can visualize hundreds of tiny mirrors on
the outer edge of your shield, reflecting all negative energies back
out into the universe.
Practice using the shield regularly, and remember too that if you
start to feel negative energies, you can reinforce your shield instantly.
Once you've done the shielding a few times, it will become very familiar,
and all you'll need to do is put it in place -- there is no length
of time required to put it up.
And try this -- it's a lot of fun: Next time you're in a crowded store,
and maybe even have people bumping into you or standing too close,
throw your shield up. If people are standing close to you, they will
take a step away. People will also take a step to the side to move
past you to get around your shield. I am not kidding -- I have done
this myself, and people don't even know why they move -- they just
do. It is wonderful to feel the instant relaxation gained from blocking
these energies -- not to mention entertaining to watch as people react!
You will also want to ground yourself regularly. Sit comfortably,
with both feet flat on the floor, and relax. Picture a grounding cord
that begins at the base of your spine, runs down through the floor,
through the ground, and all the way to the center of the earth, where
it is attached. (The cord can be any color, size, and texture that
you wish -- even a flourescent green fuzzy tail!) Now that the cord
is created, let excess energies flow out of you, through the cord,
back to the earth. You will also want to refill the space vacated
by the energies. Imagine it filling in with happiness, peace, love,
sunshine -- anything you wish.
Remember both of these techniques, and practice them often. Whenever
you are feeling stressed, toss up your shield, and you'll know immediately
whether it's your own stress, or the energies of others influencing
how you feel. Then, attach your grounding cord, and rid yourself of
any negative energies that remain, whether they are your own or that
of others. Once you send them back to the earth to be recycled, and
replace them with something positive, you should feel more relaxed,
cleared, and able to face the tasks at hand.
Finally, with these tools working for you, quiet your mind into a
meditative state, and ask your guides to come to you. You can speak
to them out loud, or in your mind, whichever is more comfortable to
you, and they will hear you. With practice, you'll be able to hear
their responses as well. It's a good idea to keep a pen and paper
with you as you are learning this process, and write down any impressions
that you get in response, even if you doubt that they actually come
from your guides. As you continue this process, you'll be able to
see the guidance coming through, and be more able to trust that it
really is coming from your guides.
Remember, there are many variations to shielding and grounding. If
you already practice other methods that work for you, there is no
need to change, unless you want to see if other methods might work
better. What I've presented here is simply one method for each, and
they are by no means the only methods that work.
