February's Message

~Abundance~

I was once told by a reader that I was capable of "living abundantly" with only a nickel in my pocket, and that I would probably share that nickel if I could. I believe that's true, I have led an abundant life, enjoying friendships, experiences, a passion for life and Spirit. I'm still learning the lessons in manifesting financial abundance, and I have come to realize that so many of us lightworkers, healers and spiritual workers are struggling with this issue. We self-sabotage ourselves with the subconscious connection that money is bad, or that we are unworthy of this sort of abundance... after all, we daily see large corporations and billionaires raping the environment or manipulating society with their power and money. The recent withdrawal of stocks by top billionaires led to the unemployment of millions of Americans... including several of my friends. Think of how much we as lightworkers and healers could do with that kind of money and power! Create sanctuaries of healing, employ people at decent, livable wages, change the corporate mindset in this nation, have the power and money to promote the message of personal empowerment, spirituality, love and healing to the masses that are constantly bombarded by cultural messages of addiction, pornography, fear, greed and ignorance. The possibilities are endless!

Many of us have the notion that our gifts of healing or counseling should be distributed freely without an exchange of energy or money. I recently had an interesting correspondence with a dear woman who took issue with readers charging for readings, comparing them to ministers who would never think of charging their congregations. I had to point out that ministers do not work for free, their congregations support them financially, after all, ministers do need to eat, support families, and I'm sure would prefer having a roof over their heads... a far cry from the days of Buddhist monk going door-to-door with nothing but his begging bowl and the robe on his back ministering for a bowl of rice..... but still, this was an exchange of energy. I pointed out that many readers and healers do offer their services for free on a limited basis--much like any professional who does pro bono work. Since people do not often place a value on unlimited, free resources, the proper "exchange of energy" (i.e., money) empowers them in their healing or allow them to better accept the counsel given. She finally understood this "exchange of energy" as it applied to her own life.... She had been a "giver" all her life, leaping in to help out friends and relatives without question only to be hurt by these same people. There was a definite imbalance in the exchange of energy... she wasn't opening up as a "receiver", and was being taken advantage of by the "takers". So many of us are like that.... more comfortable in the "giving" mode and shutting ourselves off from the "receiving" mode. We need to see that both "giving" and "receiving" are the same energy and we need to let this exchange flow. Sure we can give and give and give and without expectation of reward, this is noble path, but one that will deplete us emotionally and financially if we are not open to receiving also.

I had the pleasure of attending a workshop by Shaolin master and energetic healer Dr. Kam Yuen last year, and he summed it up quite nicely, he said that the healing is free and from Spirit, but that he must charge for his time. A wise man.

As an example of how poor our skills at manifesting abundance are... I recently posted an announcement about James Tywman's Spoonbender's course, an online course asking a suggested a donation of $25. Free scholarships were offered for anyone unable to pay. I do not have any affiliation with this organization, but feel his mission to "turn hearts and minds to peace" is a noble one, and I realize how much work went into creating it. I was surprised to hear from lightworkers who took issue at this suggested donation and were appalled at the thought of applying for a scholarship as they considered it "demeaning". Frankly, I thought if a person can't manifest the $25 to take the course... what would make them believe they could manifest a spoon to bend, or more importantly, bend hearts and minds toward peace?

We need to believe in our worthiness, believe in our work and importance in creating change, healing and light. We need to see the balance in Body, Mind and Spirit and nurture our spiritual, emotion and physical aspects together in harmony. We need to let go off the mindset that enlightenment must come from suffering and poverty, and we need to see that our heart-centered work is in honor of God/Goddess/Creator and worthy of reward. We lightworkers have to manifest abundance for ourselves so we can help manifest it for others.

Living abundantly is a constant flow of giving and receiving in love, compassion and gratitude.

This lesson hit home for me recently, and is the reason I'm writing about abundance in this month's issue.

Soul2Soul was created over two years ago as a labor of love, as a labor of love, the rewards emotionally and spiritually were enormous as people wrote of how they found healing and inspiration on their visits here, or gave thanks and praise for the Soul2Soul Network. Unfortunately, the financial rewards were nonexistent as I had implemented a "donations only" policy for listings then... I do thank the 2 people who donated a total of $20.00 in that time. I then thought that I might support Soul2Soul by generating commissions on an affiliate basis and hand-picked companies and products that I felt were of interest to our viewers and offered products of an empowering or healing nature. So far Soul2Soul has earned a total of $50.40 in commissions... I do thank all of you for purchasing from our affiliates.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, after several years of major personal challenges, I found myself with $12.26 in my bank account and the stark realization that I must either find "real" full-time employment and give up the enormous time commitment of Soul2Soul, my writing, healing and counseling work, or manifest an alternative. My answer came from Spirit, "Follow your dream". I have a dream of Soul2Soul being much more than a website, but a network of healers and lightworkers across the country and across the world. I dream of one day organizing Soul2Soul Metaphysical & Musical festivals state-by-state to promote healing and empowerment. I dream of healing retreats not only for those with the ability to pay, but to sponsor at-risk, inner-city children to learn empowerment and healing and take it back to their own communities... Ok, so I dream big.

I realized that I also needed revenue for Soul2Soul to grow in this way, advertising revenue to promote and support this site and the many listers on the Soul2Soul Network. I needed revenue to automate and improve the many features on site to make it the best destination for anyone seeking healing, empowerment and inspiration. So, I am now charging a very small payment for Soul2Soul Network listings to help me in this vision... a proper energy exchange.
